Lotus fans have been waiting for this: the Exige is now on sale in the UAE. Available in Exige S and Exige S Roadster guise, the cars are on sale now through Trading Enterprises at a starting price of AED292,500 which makes it well over AED40,000 cheaper than the Evora that went on sale here last year and we tested in October 2013 (click here to read), and which was my favourite driver’s car of last year.

Yet it matches the even more expensive AED386k Evora S with the same 3.5-litre V6, supercharged to produce 345bhp at 7000rpm, and 295lb ft of torque at 4500rpm. Driving the rear wheels through a six speed manual it catapults to 100kph from rest in 4.0-seconds and reaches an electronically restricted 233kph on the Roadster, but a derestricted 275kph on the Coupe (Evora S is 4.7secs and 269kph). It only weights 1166kg for the Roadster S and 1176kg for the Exige S.

The engine is mid-mounted in this diminutive two-seater featuring an extruded and bonded aluminium chassis. It gets double wishbone suspension, Bilstein dampes, Eibach springs and AP Racing track-tuned braking, plus Lotus’ own Dynamic Performance Management system (DPM) stability control with Sports mode.

300K for a car without even a basic infotainment? Sorry Lotus, but that’s one disappointment.
Yes I agree this is an entry-level supercar(?), but that doesn’t mean cheaper cars such as the Cayman, the Camaro, and the F-Type Coupe don’t have tech in them.
