It’s not a new thing entirely. In some parts of the world, online car buying has been a reality for years. It hasn’t taken over from the showroom experience – for most people buying a car is the second biggest purchase after purchasing your own home, and they like to touch, feel and test a car before spending the hard-earned.

However as an additional tool, online car purchasing is now a reality here in the UAE for those who would like to buy a new or used Chevrolet from UAE dealer Al Ghandi Automotive’s stock or even just find and book a car, before going to the dealer to finalise the purchase.  Click here to try it now http://chevrolet.alghandi.com/shop-click-drive-/

Al Ghandi have found that digital leads have increased by 450% over the last 18 months and has generated additional car sales, so it’s not surprising that as a dealer they’ve jumped at the chance to be an early adopter of the Shop Click Drive online car buying system, that GM has already been running in the USA for some years now.

They’re research suggests 50% of customers would consider buying a car online, and yes you could indeed quite possibly do the entire transaction online – assuming you can pay for it without arranging finance – although that can be done online too, with a complete financial app being further added to the service later in the year – and, if the car is in stock and already prepped, have you car delivered to you the same day!

Alternatively you can simply use the system to find and reserve your preferred car and complete the transaction in person. Or vice-versa you could book the car at the dealer and if you’re not sure, come home and pull it up on the system to share with your family before making the final decision.

Talking of final decisions – all online purchases are reversible – just in case you’re worried about the kids buying that Transformers yellow Camaro online, or yourself booking a car in a fit of ebullience only to realise the next morning that a Corvette convertible wasn’t quite the right choice as your next family car, of you were under the influence something more than lemonade when you hit the submit button!

Whilst at the moment the service is only available through Al Ghandi and for Chevrolet vehicles, it is expected to be extended and expanded to cover the entire family range of GM vehicles and it’s substantial dealer network not only here in the UAE, but across the GCC over the course of the next few months.

It’s a great system and useful tool to just help research your next purchase even if you are not quite going to complete the purchase online.

The only thing we’d like to see is the ability to spec up a brand new car with your own colours, wheels and options etc, rather than only being able to peruse existing stock.

For example if you want to order a blue with white stripes Camaro ZL1 with a manual transmission, you still have to go directly to the dealer, stamp your feet and insist on your order and then wait 5-6 months as it goes through the build. Undoubtedly they will add this feature at some point in the future.
