Learning to Drift with Drift Allstars

We attend Media Drive preview event for Drift Allstars round 1 this weekend, and find it’s a lot harder than it looks!

Shahzad Sheikh

I tried to learn Drifting once before, and all I really learnt was that it’s harder than it looks. Much, much harder! On Sunday I tried again, so Click below to see my warts-and-all attempts even whilst being coached by one of the best professional drifters in the region, Jordanian Ahmad Daham – multiple title winner and record holder for longest twin-drift.

As you can see it’s not easy, but it’s all about practice, practice, practice, and I did eventually start to pick it up a little thanks to my brilliantly patient, extremely laid-back, and ever-jolly instructor Daham. Plus it always helps to know that it’s someone else’s car and tyres that are being thrashed!

With more time I could probably start to get a closer to what these guys do, but when you see them in action, you realise just what incredible skill, balance and control is required in the ‘Art of Drifting’.

You’ll be able to see for yourself in a new Middle East series kicking off this weekend at Yas Marina Circuit featuring 800bhp plus pro-drift cars. They’re loud, smoky and very spectacular to watch.
