In future editions of the Oxford dictionary under the term ‘mid-life refresh’, there should be a picture of this 2015 Nissan Sunny. It’s a textbook example of how to execute a mild mid-cycle update.

What’s new? The headlights are now a swoopy boomerang shape and there’s an optional chrome grille with new LED turn signals, while the bumper is restyled to be a tiny bit more aggressive. 12-spoke alloys are an option.

No mechanical changes for the 1.5-litre engine, but the interior borrows the multifunctional wheel from the Sentra and top models gets a swanky touch screen system that can connect to Facebook.

Prices start at AED45,500 for the rental-spec base 1.5S with central locking, ABS and front-only power windows. 48,390 gets you the SV with electric mirrors, steering wheel audio switches, hands-free phone and a remote trunk release.

At 51,600, the Sunny starts to become the car you might buy with your own money: front fogs, full power windows, a rear fan, 4 speakers (yay), 15” alloys and rear sensors. 54,000 flat nabs full options: LED side mirrors, push-start, smart keys and the ‘Display Audio’ system with Facebook. The latter will read status updates to you – for safety, the system only works when the car is stationary.

The new Sunny will be available from August 1 in the UAE.
