Not to be left out on the facelift fun, a refreshed Challenger is also bowing at the 2014 New York Auto Show. This time, Dodge is looking back to the 70s – specifically the 1971 Challenger.

The changes are subtle. Up front, there’s now a split grille, a bigger hood and HID lamps while the tail splits the iconic ‘racetrack’ LED lighting in two.

Though we haven’t got a shot of the interior yet, we expect it to broadly be similar to the new Charger with a raft of technology upgrades that finally bring in cool gadgets like the 8.4″ UConnect touchscreen. Expect a ton of safety features as well, including Forward Collision Warning, adaptive cruise control, Blind-spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path detection.

Rather than a wholesale redesign, this update is really about bringing the Challenger in line with the rest of the family. All models from base SXT up to the mighty SRT8 now get the TorqueFlite 8-speed auto as standard improving fuel economy. Top SRT8 gets a Scat Pack for the 392 HEMI taking power up to 48bhp and 475lb ft of torque; available on either of the V8s is a Shaker hood scoop mated to a cold air intake boosting power.
