2013 VW Polo Sedan
Entry-level four-door from Volkswagen

Volkswagen weren’t joking a few years ago when they said they were getting serious about moving into every significant segment of the Middle East car market. First they introduced an aggressively priced new Jetta that set out to take over where the old Honda Civic left off. Then came the tailored-for-the-region Passat which aims to muscle in on the Camry segment with a great level of space and comfort, and now this.
The new Polo Sedan is aiming at the Yaris saloon and Honda City and has just gone on sale. It comes with a 1.6-litre 105bhp engine with a six-speed automatic and is well equipped with 15-inch alloys, dual front airbags, ABS and even keyless entry. Prices start at AED59,000.
The car we’re getting here is made in Pune, India – a state-of-the-art facility touted as one of the most modern plants in the Volkswagen Group.
It’s 82mm longer than the European Polo hatchback it’s based on and includes more rear legroom. It also comes with improved ‘Climatic’ manual air conditioning as standard in S and SE models with Climatronic air-con an option.
